Meaning of Mother's day

Upcoming Mother’s Day is on Sunday, the 12th of May 2013

M-O-T-H-E-R M” is for the million things she gave me,
O” means only that she’s growing old,
T” is for the tears she shed to save me,
H” is for her heart of purest gold;
E” is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
R” means right, and right she’ll always be,
Put them all together, they spell “MOTHER,”
A word that means the world to me.
–Howard Johnson (c. 1915)

Mother's Day is a celebration honoring mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in March or May. It complements Father's day a similar celebration honoring fathers.
The celebration of Mother's Day began in the United States in the early 20th century; it is not related to the many celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have occurred throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration.[Despite this, in some countries Mother's Day has become synonymous with these older traditions. (Quoted from Wikipedia)

Most of the countries celebrate Mother's day in their own culture and back grounds. But the meaningful of Mother's day is the same every where, is to honor mothers. Our Mother always looks after and takes care of us, gives us a shelter, protection, caring, and comfort etc. Without questions our mother has gone through tears, blood, and sweat to raise us.

My mother lives so far away from me, on the other side of the world. I always honor her when I miss her every day. Happy Mother's day Mama, and to all mothers!
